The Atmospheric Infrared Sounder (AIRS) is one instrument onboard NASA's Aqua satellite.     Model simulations are used to show how the grain size, density, snow depth, and an ice crust affect the emissivity and brightness temperatures measured by the Advanced Microwave Sounding Unit (AMSU).
